Pre WW1 / Boer War Cavalry Wristlet

An early military wristlet complete with its original wrist watch strap. Although of "fob watch" dimensions, given the watch's designation as the "Cavalry" model, this was certainly marketed with the intention of it being used as a wristlet. The accompanying text, "Lever", is another watch marketing strategy as in the years preceding WW1, it was found that lever escapements proved to be more reliable and accurate over the "cylinder" escapement.

This leather strap would have been used to protect the watch while wearing it on the wrist and appears to be in remarkably good condition as is the watch. It is working, however, it cannot be wound presently as it is lacking its crown. I suspect that this was lost early in service and the watch put away, as is.

As I have been able to wind the watch in a non-conventional and non-damaging method, I can assure you that the movement is otherwise complete and in working order but it really needs a replacement crown to be sourced. This should be straightforward for watchmakers with access to spare parts. I should add that replacing the stem with a longer one would provide greater reach up through the neck into a suitable crown. A watchmaker will know what I mean.

Selling this very interesting watch, for someone to complete as a project. To be honest, the watch with its non-luminous porcelain dial, indicates that it may be as early as the Boer War.
