WW2 Eros (Phenix) Tank Watch c.1939

An attractive Eros Tank Watch made by the Swiss Phenix Watch Company, c.1939. Phenix is a company that is known to have supplied the German Army with military service watches, including pocket watches, under their alternative name, "Eros". As such, Eros is a brand name that is now heavily associated with the German watch market, but while Eros watches were popular in Germany, they were likely distributed throughout Europe, although the nazis used Eros to serve their ideology by promoting a hyper-masculine, heroic ideal.

Motivated by images from the Western Front, Louis Cartier designed the first rectangular watch in 1917, taking inspiration from the new Tank that appeared on the battlefield. Fashionable, his iconic timepiece was widely copied by other watchmakers, such as this example made by Phenix Eros. It is presented in good original condition, with the steel case and glass being free of damage.

Presented on a vintage leather military-style strap. (See additional images)
